Finding eBooks in the library catalogue

In the Week 8 readings, I made an error on the link to one of the eBooks and some of you had trouble finding the eBook.

I wanted to share a tip with you about how to find eBooks using the library catalogue, because they don’t always show up in QuickFind (which is a bit annoying!).

Try searching for the book title in the ‘classic catalogue’ rather than in QuickFind.

You might also like to have a look at this video I made about following up citations. The link takes you to 5 minutes 52 seconds, which is where I start talking about searching for known items in the library catalogue.

PS. This isn’t me whinging about people not searching for the book. I’ve had trouble with this myself so just thought I’d share. 🙂

Thank you so much for this post- this cleared up my confusion! The book I had issues with was Librarians as Community Partners: An Outreach Handbook- noted in readings Under Assignment 2/3. I was going bananas as all I could find with QuickFind was just the reviews on the book (highly frustrating!). On the plus side I ordered my 1st Bonus Libraries Document Delivery which was speedy and efficient. Interestingly I did use the Library help desk to search for this and had no joy either so I am really pleased to know this for future searches. Anitra

Ah, originally I couldn’t find that book in the catalogue either – I had to email our liaison librarian. So you weren’t going crazy! But it is a lot easier to find eBooks in the catalogue rather than QuickFind.
