How to embed a tweet in a blog post

[Update 26 October: Turns out all you need to do to embed a tweet is copy the link to the tweet and paste it into your post. Voila!]

Want to embed a tweet in one of your blog posts? Here’s a run down on how to do it.

  1. Go to twitter.com and find the tweet you want to embed.
  2. Click on the tweet to expand it
  3. Scroll down to the bottom the tweet and look for the ellipsis (…)
  4. Click on the ellipsis and choose Embed tweet
  5. Copy the embed code.
  6. Open up your blog post to edit it.
  7. Click on the Text tab.
  8. Put your cursor where you want the tweet to appear and paste in the embed code.

The tweet will look something like this:

… ie it doesn’t look very fancy in the edit view. Don’t panic! It will get fancied up once you publish your post.
  9. Publish your post as normal. Note when your post is published, the tweet will look something like this (if it has media like an image included in it):

Or like this (if it doesn’t have media embedded in it):

And that’s it!

Shout out if you need a hand with embedding tweets.

@admin is there something else we should be doing to include the media attached? I’ve written a post about the Fun Palace but it seems that its only the caption that’s showing up when I go to publish!

might just be an issue with my twitter, as it’s telling me it can’t reach the server now. I’ll try again tomorrow 🙂

hi @admin yes the embeds are working but its throwing the whole rest of the blog out, so I might just have to start again! For some reason, it is only publishing half of the post even though there’s a whole extra paragraph written in the text

Is it your Fun Palace post? I can jump in the back end and have a look for you to see what’s going on.

@admin I think it’s all good, I think there was a HTML error in the text section, so I just deleted the entire second half of the post and re-entered it bit by bit. Seems to be fine, post is live 🙂

@admin I have tried following these instructions to embed twitter posts, but they look wrong – only using the text, not people’s icons, images etc. Any suggestions?

You won’t see the images etc in the edit screen, only when the post is published. Have you hit publish yet?

Hi Karen, I’ve just updated this post with info on how to do this. In short, just copy the link to the tweet and paste it in your post. Thanks to @chloe93 for the advice!
